Many people will debate me on this but the Flames are the best team in Canada, this Calgary Flames team is our best hope of bringing the Cup back to Canada.
Right now the Toronto Maple Leafs are the only team in Canada that can take the glory from the Calgary Flames. As of today, the Flames are second in the West with 68 points and two games in hand and the Maple Leafs are fourth in the East with 74 points.
They each won one game apiece in the season series. The Flames won the most recent one with a beating over the Leafs in a 5-2 victory in February and the Leafs won a close hard-fought OT win back in November.
The Oilers can’t get into this conversation until some big questions get answered. And as for the Jets and Canucks they need to try and get back in the race after two horrific starts to this season. While the Senators and Habs battle it out for the worst team in Canada this season.
Darryl Sutter’s team led by Johnny Gaudreau and Matthew Tkachuk as of right now are set to play the Nashville Predators or the Dallas Stars. Both of which turn their game on when the time for playoffs. But who knows lots can change from now.
And the Maple Leafs are set to play one of the two teams downtown in Florida.
Uh oh.
Another first-round exit for the Leafs? Whether they play the two-time defending cup champions, Tampa Bay Lightning, or the deep, high-speed Florida Panthers; both sound pretty scary to play with the game on the line.
However, the depth of the Flames combined with their goaltending put them at another level. Yes, they have Johnny Gaudreau. Yes, they have Matthew Tkachuk, and yup they have Andrew Mangiapane, too. But not every team has such good depth and goaltending and world-class talent all on the same team.
But when the Leafs have Jack Campbell and John Tavares playing at their best and the rest of the Core Four showing off their skill when the time for the playoffs. They can get out of the first round in no time.
So who do you think is better? The Leafs or the FLames?
I’d put my bet on the Calgary Flames.
