Should The Maple Leafs Consider Fleury?

The Maple Leaf’s goaltending has become more and more of an issue of late. I have heard trade rumors about the Leafs and the veteran goalie, Marc-Andre Fleury. He would provide a much-needed boost come playoff time as he looks to win another cup.

Fleury is expected to become available at the deadline and is an unrestricted free agent for next season. Currently, he is running a 16-19-4 record with the Chicago Blackhawks. He has a .911 save percentage and a 2.83 goals-against average while backstopping the Blackhawks, who currently sit 15 points back of a playoff spot in the West.

Even with Muzzin on LTIR, the Leafs would have to do some further maneuvering to squeeze Fleury’s seven million dollar contract. But, with Mrazek and Campbell playing like this, you can’t afford the risk. You can’t go out in the first round again.

Carrying a .894 save percentage throughout his past seven starts, Jack Campell has had a rough start to the year 2022. With a record of 23-8-4 this season, a save percentage of .917, and a 2.55 GAA, he has had a tough go since his hot streak at the start of the season; despite the decent record, he posted a .880 save percentage over the eight starts in January.

Campbell has struggled in 2022 after a red-hot start to the season; he has had a .894 save percentage over his past seven starts. He had a .894 save percentage over seven starts in February after posting a .880 mark over eight January starts. This season, he has a 23-8-4 record with a .917 save percentage and a 2.55 GAA.

As Campbell works through his “mental block,” Mrazek started the Leafs’ 5-3 win over the Washington Capitals on Monday. He stopped 30 of the 33 shots he faced on Monday. In his first year as Maple Leaf, he posts a 9-4 record with a .895 save percentage and a 3.07 GAA.

The Leafs aren’t the only team who could use Fleury, though. Edmonton Oilers, Boston Bruins, Washington Capitals, and Colorado Avalanche should consider the Vezina winning goalie.

I think it’s cool to think about your favorite team having a Vezina-winning goalie.
